skeletone
an etheric portal for cultural discovery

The Vision:

Skeletone is to be an online boutique
for unique
electronica, visuals & interactives
electronic music downloads as mp3, aac & flac
freaky visuals tailored for desktop graphics
style is dark/organic/weird/groovy/ambient
also likely to supply truetones/mobile backgrounds
and even animation/film clips
...

you will be greeted by a 1930s style wireless radio
then navigate through pages made of x-ray bones
a distinctive collection of digitized artistry is revealed
audio & visual samples are encountered
subscribe to access downloads
& create an online profile

Themes:

shifting beyond the mundane into an etheric realm
dis/embodiment
individuality/community
subconscious choice/getting beneath the surface
legitimate downloaders vs freeloaders

Flickerlists:

flickerlists are a unique
new media that will premiere on Skeletone
they sprung up from development of an 'oracle' as a way to question linearity
each flickerlist is a topic with words flickering to describe elements within that topic
a moment is chosen revealing a specific area for contemplation

chiasma cards were the original flickerlist focusing on personal growth
new topics of humin excess & health theories are in development

Timeline:

2005

initial formulation of idea, choice of name, domain registrations,
began artist liaison, collected x-rays from family & pets, launched preview page,
created fretwork design for radio wireless interface
photographed source material for textures etc
brainstormed heaps of ideas for user interface . . .

first half of 2006
seriously stuck into creating the wireless in Photoshop
developed wood texture, shape, speaker fabric, shading, gleam, feet
etc
imported wireless layers into Flash and began bringing it to life with interactivity
scanned & photographed x-ray bones then edited and toned them in Photoshop
got bones into Flash and created pages/menus

re-rationalized interface functions for fluidity & simplicity

From Here on in . . .
make a mysterious introduction for wireless to appear
continue to build and refine the interface

further artist liaison, circulating info sheet
create/collect/integrate text content
artist profiles, sounds, visuals

develop & integrate flickerlists
create
a trippy routine for flickerlists opening in 'mouth' of wireless

creating HTML pages that mirror the Flash text
design & integrate buttons to play samples of visuals and audio loops
integrate two knobs and make them control radio streaming
integrate sound effects to coincide with visual changes

structure and test staged downloading (lucky i've got dial up)
